It was 9:38am. I felt my work phone vibrating so naturally I picked it up. With confidence in my voice, I greeted the Vice President of Marketing full well knowing what this call was about. She read me a statement. Because of the downturn in business due to Covid-19, my full time job was eliminated. I knew an organizational review was being done so the news wasn’t unexpected.
Quite honestly, it was a relief. It’s hard to plan your life when you don’t know if your job is safe or not. Do I continue working as if nothing is happening? Should I be looking for jobs and figuring out how to apply for unemployment? All of the anxiety and worry lifted off my chest with that call.
For those of you who don’t know, I was working a full time job as a Senior Marketing Manager. I actually have a professional background of 10+ years in sales and marketing. Coaching is fairly new in comparison.
With all layoffs there’s always a period of transition. Some people choose to freak out and others take the bull by the horns. I am choosing to look at this with positivity and as an opportunity. The world is already hard enough with the pandemic. Hell, it’s hard even when there isn’t a pandemic. There’s no reason I need to make it harder for myself.
I am not sure what my full plan of attack is just yet. What I do know is I am going to be putting a much bigger emphasis on my coaching business. This means several things:
I’m sorry if I’m “that guy” with close to nothing but fitness posts, but that’s who I need to become if want any chance of success. You have no reason to want to hire me if you aren’t sure I can help you, right? I need to show you I can and that means being more visible. That’s just how it is.
With that said, I want to know what you want to learn more about. What are your struggles? Where do you feel you need more improvement? With all of the fitness and nutrition information (and misinformation) out there what has left you feeling confused or intrigued? No topic is too small or dumb so please don’t be shy. Leave a comment or shoot me an email at alex@alexandujarfitness.com if you don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment.
I can’t sit here and pretend like I know what’s going to happen. This is the first time I’ve ever been laid off so it’s very new to me. I do know this: there’s a lot of good things coming my way and I’m willing to work for them. Just as a reminder the services I offer are:
Again, I’ll be posting more on here regardless of whether or not you provide me with topics. It’ll be a lot easier if I know what you want me to talk about, but there’s plenty to talk about! I look forward to this next chapter and helping you reach your goals.
